Kenneth Lawrence Cline, Aka “Kenny Clean”, a man known for stirring up joy and laughter, took his final sip on December 23, 2023, at the age of 88 in Anacortes, Washington. Born on January 17th (or maybe the 19th?) in 1935, in the Windy City of Chicago, Kenny was raised in The South Side of Chicago, Hyde Park, after that he lived in Biloxi, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Florida & a few places in Washington State.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, raconteur, professional bartender, veteran, pretty good cribbage player, runner, boxer, gambler, and most of all, one of the most loving human beings that ever danced along the curve of the earth. Kenny lived a life that was shaken, not stirred. In his younger days, Kenny enlisted in the Army, where he mastered the art of military mixology. His military associations added an extra kick to his already flavorful character, making him a force to be reckoned with.
After hanging up his uniform, Kenny dedicated himself to a career as a professional bartender, where he became a master of merriment. With a quick wit and a smile that could light up a room, he crafted drinks that were as refreshing as his presence. His customers always left with a taste of happiness on their lips. Some of the places he lit up and worked at in Port Townsend were The Town Tavern, Judges Chambers, Lido, Manresa Castle, and The Sea Galley. He always had music in his heart, a smile on his face and a spring in his step.
When Kenny wasn't behind the bar, he was on a never-ending quest for the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. A true cocktail connoisseur, he had a knack for mixing up more than just drinks. His larger-than-life personality was a delightful blend of happiness and adventure. Traveling the world was his favorite cocktail, adding a dash of wanderlust to his life. Whether he was jet-setting to exotic destinations or embarking on road trips, he always found a way to shake things up and create unforgettable memories.
Whether he was pouring his heart into his wife of 36 years or his children, his love was always served neat. That Ken always ‘led with love’ is an understatement. This philosophy contributed to his beautiful life overall. Kenny will forever be remembered as a spirited soul who knew how to make every moment count. His zest for life, love for family, and his ability to add a splash of joy to every occasion will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
If Kenny Cline was anything, he was everything and something different to everyone at the same time. He was known for his humor, storytelling, and ability to connect with anyone. Kenny never met a person he didn’t want to befriend and if you were lucky enough to call him your friend you were lucky enough! Everyone who knew him learned something about love. While he will be missed greatly, the life lessons he shared with us will continue to be present in our lives and bring us comforting memories.
Kenny leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Norma, who was also his best friend and caretaker, along with 4 children: Charlotte, Dawn, Laura and Gracian (+ a few others), 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren (full count TBD): truly a legacy of amazing people all over the United States.
Join us in raising a glass to Kenny's extraordinary journey at a celebration of life to be held in Port Townsend, towards the beginning of July. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the person right next to you in whatever they need, because Kenny believed in making the world a better place, one cocktail at a time.
Kenny, cheers to a life well-lived and a legacy that will never be forgotten. YOU ARE SO LOVED!
