Pocket yachts. Port Townsend hosts the Pocket Yacht Palooza, a free boat show, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 29.

Jazz Friday. Centrum presents Jazz Friday Evening at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, July 28 at McCurdy Pavilion in Fort Worden State Park.

The first set features Sachal Vasandani, vocal; Rene Marie, vocal; Dawn Clement, piano; Martin Wind, bass; and Matt Wilson, drums.

The second set presents David Sanchez, tenor; Terell Stafford, trumpet; Wycliffe Gordon, trombone; Randy Porter, piano; Marlon Martinez, bass; and Obed Calvaire, drums.

The second set is “Chuck Deardorf Life Of Music Celebration,” with Jovino Santos Neto, piano; Ben Thomas, vibes; Tim Carey, bass; Mark Ivester, drums; Jeff Busch, percussion; Dawn Clement, piano; John Clayton, bass; and Matt Wilson, drums. “Home” featuring Hans Teuber, tenor; Jay Thomas, trumpet; Dawn Clement, piano; John Clayton, bass; and Gary Hobbs, drums.

The third set is music from the Centrum All Star Big Band.

Summer toons. Jefferson County Library’s summer reading program presents “Draw Your Voice” at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 31 at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum.

Join local author and cartoonist Dana Sullivan to create a unique, collaborative story with TWIST!

The group will warm up with doodles before learning to create characters with emotion (without fear of inner critics), then join together to create a story using everyone’s unique perspectives.

The program repeats at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Worthington Park in Quilcene.

“Taming of the Shrew.” Saltfire Theatre presents “Taming of the Shrew” on Thursdays through Sundays, from Aug. 3 through Aug. 8.

Saltfire Theatre returns this summer with one of Shakespeare’s most knotty works.

Set in the world of the 1930s, where prospects are bleak for many and the affluent have far-reaching influence, sparks fly when two rebellious spirits collide.

The play will be presented at Fort Worden State Park (by the giant madrona tree) at 6 p.m. on Aug. 3 to Aug. 6, and Aug. 17 to Aug. 20.

The play comes to Finnriver Cidery in Chimacum at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10; 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11; 3 p.m Saturday, Aug. 12; and 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13.

Voices for Women. “Finding our Voices for Women” will be held at
9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 in Port Townsend.

The event, led by Jan Jorgensen, will include a women’s circle, meditation and discussion, sound healing, and a visit by the Queens Caravan traveling van.

Triumphant return. Discovery Bay Brewing welcomes the Key City Ramblers back for a performance at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

The group covers a wide variety of songs from the ‘60s to the present day, drawing from a multitude of styles including rock, alt country, Americana, and blues.

Key City Ramblers features Cathy Tibert (vocals, rhythm guitar, flute, and harmonica), Mike Pace (lead guitar and vocals), Paul Tibert (bass), and various drummers/percussionists

Seal stories. The Friends of Fort Flagler present the program, “Seals on the Beach,” at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9 at Fort Flagler State Park. The day includes a short walk on the beach to find and talk about the Pacific Harbor Seals. Binoculars are recommended. 

The group will meet in front of the Beachcomber Café in the lower campground. 

The program will be led by Deisy Bach, a resident of Jefferson County on the board of Friends of Fort Flagler. Bach has more than 18 years’ experience with marine mammals including volunteering with the Marine Mammal Center, Ano Nuevo State Preserve, SR3, and Port Townsend Marine Science Center Stranding Network.

Tasting Gala. Quilcene Historical Museum hosts its 14th annual Tasting Gala at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 at Worthington Park in Quilcene. Don’t miss the museum’s big fundraiser. The much-loved event has a fun new theme each year.

Attendance is limited to age 21 and up. There will be live entertainment, local artisans, vintners, brewers, and food vendors.

Pink tribute. Pigs on the Wing will perform two shows in Port Townsend at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 19 at the American Legion Hall.

Pigs on the Wing is the Northwest’s premier live tribute to Pink Floyd.

Friday’s show is a Pink Floyd retrospective, with two sets of deep cuts and hits from “Piper at the Gates of Dawn,” “Meddle,” “The Dark Side of The Moon,” “Animals,” “The Wall,” and more.

Saturday’s show is a 50th anniversary tribute to “The Dark Side of the Moon,” with the band playing the album in its entirety plus a full second set of classic Floyd.

Admission is 21 and older. Single-night tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door; two-night tickets are $50.

Back to the woods. Departure Fest NW 2023 returns to the Lake Leland Amphitheater in Quilcene from Sept. 22 through Sept. 24.

Departure Fest NW is a three-day music festival with camping, world-class musical performances, Pacific Northweast craft vendors, and food. Featured artists include WookieFoot, Nattali Rize, Torin Frost & Patterns of Saturn, Kalan Wolfe & The Shift, Elias Alexander (Ramblxr), Max Ribner, Sierra Marin, Jus Wright, Aaron Hale & The Human Beings, Locust Street Taxi, Three Wheels Turning, Lujah, Ember Brightheart, DJ Lunch Lady, and storytelling with Aimee Ringle.
