The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department received a total of 306 calls for service between Friday, Sept. 8 and Friday, Sept. 15. Below are selected reports.

At 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 on Hadlock Bay Road, the reporting party discovered a male and female on their beach cabin property, thereby interrupting their burglary. When the victim confronted them, the subjects ran to the shore and attempted to flee in the victim’s canoe. When the deputy arrived on scene, they discovered a wallet and phone left at the cabin, as well as a broken door to gain entry. Both subjects were located and booked in jail for burglary and theft.

At 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 on Beaver Valley Road, a caller reported her ex-boyfriend was on the premises, yelling at her. She explained that she had only dated him for a month and when they broke up, he had started to harass her. Allegedly, he has shown up at both her home and her business, wanting to “fix” their month-long relationship. She believes he was possibly sleeping under her trailer without her knowledge. The deputy suggested a protection order and to contact the sheriff’s department again if he returns. She intends to get a restraining order.

At 11:55 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 on Flagler Road, a caller reported his vehicle stolen and advised who the suspect was. He also stated he had been assaulted 30 minutes prior by the son of his housekeeper because he was trying to take a picture of his girlfriend, who allegedly stole the car. When the deputy contacted the reporting party, he was very intoxicated. He told them he believed the two suspects had stolen the vehicle; however, he had also allowed them to borrow it. The deputy spoke with the alleged suspects, who noted the vehicle they borrowed was electric and had died in Brinnon. The deputy spoke with both parties, and the reporting party admitted to initially putting his hands on the suspect. Deputy noted the car was not stolen at the time.

At 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11 on Chimacum Road, a caller reported he was near storage units, where it appeared six locks had been cut and broken into. The deputy responded and confirmed they were indeed cut, likely with bull cutters. The deputy was unable to locate a suspect, or even latent prints. Several items were missing from the units.

At 3:40 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11 on Southport Lane, a man showed up at the reporting party’s residence, grabbed him and shook him, then took his keys. He was advised to stay home and speak with law enforcement. When the deputy arrived, the reporting party stated he didn’t want to get the suspect in trouble, but he did want his phone back. The suspect was allegedly stalking his ex-girlfriend. The deputy noted the suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs, possibly hallucinating.

At 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 on Ness’s Corner Road, a male subject was reported yelling in a store. The reporting party wanted him trespassed. Deputies located the subject, who had been trespassed by numerous businesses for similar behavior. He was contacted and issued a trespass warning.

At 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 on Irondale Road, an altercation including two females and a dog was reported. One of the females was screaming and crying. The deputy noted two additional males with them. The deputy observed one of the male subjects on his knees in front of the crying female. The male made several statements and verbally slandered the female in front of the deputy. The deputy noted that the male had a machete, or similarly-bladed tool, and determined it was actually a cane knife. The male subject had brought it with him to the confrontation. When he made contact with the deputy, he touched his holster, said, “You can protect property with this,” then reached for the knife. During the search, another knife was found on his belt. He was taken into custody and booked at the jail.

At 7:43 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 an intoxicated female was reported on a Jefferson Transit bus. At one point, she fell out of the bus. The deputy responded and found two juvenile females lying on the ground. One stood up and advised the other was intoxicated. Deputy noted the other was indeed extremely intoxicated; she admitted to drinking vodka. The deputy contacted the subject’s mother, who responded at the scene to take her home. The report was completed and forwarded to the prosecutor for juvenile services.

At 8:17 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 a violation of a court order occurred at Sunny’s RV. The suspect, a transient, was reported at the front of the store, throwing items around. The deputy contacted the subject and reiterated the order, part of which meant giving the motor home to the petitioner. The deputy cautioned the petitioner not to invite the subject around, as doing so is contrary to the spirit of the order.
