Pearl passed away in her Port Hadlock home on June 8, 2020 due to Multiple Myeloma and heart issues. She was 86.

Originally from Lovell, Wyoming, born to Alice and Asa Birdsley, she lived in several places before settling in Port Hadlock in 1973 with her husband, Leonard (Bud), and three of her six children. Leonard passed away September 7, 2015. They’d been married 50 years.

She was known by many for her beautiful quilts and afghans that she made. Besides giving many away to family and friends, Pearl and her sewing partner at the time designed a Bicentennial quilt and sent it to the White House when Gerald Ford was president in 1975.

Pearl had a commercial cleaning business for many years and truly enjoyed working. In addition to the Port Hadlock and Chimacum Post Office and a local bank, she cleaned the Jefferson County Library for nearly 30 years and only quit when her health demanded she stop working in 2015. She was 82 years old. When she was physically able, she enjoyed tending to her outdoor plants, she read books like crazy and played Mahjong on the computer. She was a very giving person who always put others’ needs before her own.

Pearl is preceded in death by her son, Raymond E. Sayer, and her husband, both passing in 2015. She is survived by her five children, Rose Balentine (Steven Leavitt), Robert Balentine (Janet), Ronnie Wilder, Rickie Kuhn (Miles) and Diana Eyl (Frank). Five grandchildren, Darci Szabo, Royleea Love, Brandie Kuhn, Brian and Eric Balentine. There are ten great-grandchildren and soon to be six great-great-grandchildren.

Saying our lives will never be the same is an understatement. Pearl will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date when large gatherings are allowed again.
