At around 6 p.m. on Friday, April 17, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a high speed crash involving one vehicle near milepost five on Center Road, which closed the road for several hours.

Steven Collier, 31, of Port Townsend, was killed in the crash. He was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of impact and sustained significant head trauma, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. He was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Allysia Bishop, 27, of Chimacum, was conscious and alert when contacted by the Washington State Patrol. Bishop was arrested for vehicular homicide and taken to Jefferson County Jail, where bail was set at $50,000.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office, drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and eyewitnesses report having seen the vehicle nearby driving at an “extreme high rate of speed.”

The investigation into the crash is ongoing by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detectives.

A resident of Port Townsend, Collier was well-known around town after having worked as a cook at several restaurants, including Siren’s Bar and Pub and Ichikawa Sushi Bar.

He was also an artist and had a large group of friends in the online gaming community, who held an online ceremony for him on April 21.

More than 20 friends posted on his Facebook wall after the crash, expressing their grief and condolences to his family.

“He was so articulate, sensitive, kind and caring,” wrote one friend.

“I wish we had more time, but I’m so grateful to have met you,” wrote another.
