League announces its standout members for July

Port Ludlow Art League has selected is featured members for July.

Janice Gruber is the league’s Artist of the Month, and Mary Lynn Laker has been named Jeweler of the Month.

Gruber is the daughter of a logger and has has spent her entire life in the rainy timber country of the Evergreen State. As such, her artwork often portrays the floras, landscapes, and seascapes found in the great Northwest.

Gruber turns to oil, acrylics, and watercolors to create paintings in an impressionistic style. A recent addition to her paintings is a collection of glass mosaics.

Her artwork can be seen in July at the Sound Community Bank and online at portludlowart.org.

An artist’s reception is planned for 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 in the lobby of the bank, with another gathering following from 5 to 6 p.m. at the adjacent Port Ludlow Art League Gallery.

Laker is known for creating necklaces, bracelets, and earrings in a wide variety of styles and materials, including silver, bronze, gems, felt, stones, and crystals. She favors Asian-themed designs and has fashioned fish, kimonos, and Buddha figurines into a striking collection of jewelry, according to the art league.

Her jewelry will also be on display at the Port Ludlow Art League Gallery in July, as well as the Sound Community Bank and online at portludlowart.org.

The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow. The gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
