Since November 2018, Jefferson County officials have known about unpermitted clearing and grading, wetland fills and building construction at Fort Discovery Inc.’s Cedar Hills project at Tarboo Lake.
Why has the county refused to say why they have not issued a stop work order?
As The Leader has reported, Jefferson County shooting ordinances approved last year were invalidated and the planning commission is now being asked to hastily pass new shooting range ordinances regulating facilities like Cedar Hills.
Fort Discovery Inc. is not participating in the planning commission process. Instead the corporation’s president has announced that he is meeting secretly with the county, and states, “work continues at Cedar Hills” and that “it’s nice having the County as a partner when building your dream training facility.”
Why is the county wasting our time? How can the public have any confidence that the planning commission process is legitimate when the county administration looks like they’re working a deal in the back room?
The Planning Commission should suspend their work until this matter is cleared up.
