It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Florence Jane Jevne, better known around here as Sis. Florence (Sis) passed on Saturday November 14th in Port Townsend, surrounded by her children.
Florence Jane Jevne (King) was born in Anacortes, Washington on July 31st, 1945 to Emmet Stanley King and Betty Mildred Jackson. Together with her four siblings they grew up in Friday Harbor of the San Juan Islands where she was crowned the Rendezvous Queen her senior year of high school, as she was noted for being outgoing and lots of fun. She later moved to Port Townsend, Washington where she lived out the rest of her life.
Sis was most known for her continued award-winning fish and chips at Sea J’s Café which she and her late Husband Richard Louis Jevne opened in 1992 as her family still strive to carry on today. Most of the locals know you could find Sis there with a friendly conversation and a warm cup of coffee. Sis frequently opened her heart and home to many local kids who were struggling with adolescence. Her expertise in creating the most productive fishing nets were known far and wide. She had started a business known as Net Shed in 1974, mending gill nets from Port Angeles all the way to Alaska, even went on to teach her methods of mending and repairing nets. Her vivacious charm warmed the hearts of all who knew her.
Sis is Joining her parents, brothers Bud King and Sonny King, brother in law Greg Mathay as well as her late husbands Robert Frances Hos and Richard Louis Jevne also children Micheal Thomas Hos and Sherice Dawn Jevne. Sis is survived by her brother Art King, his wife Linda King and sister Kandy Mathay as well as her four children, Rhonda Hos, Mary Hos, Derrick Jevne and Camron Jevne, her nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, six nephews, seven nieces and many great nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished.
Sis was the ever-giving matriarch of her family. Always willing to lend a hand or a warm meal. She was the most Kind, caring, sweet and hardworking dedicated woman around. She constantly looked out for those who needed it most and never turned away a good conversation. She has touched the hearts of so many people and will be missed every day.
