I have a different approach to this election mess. Why does Election Day have to be on the first Tuesday of November? This is stupid!
Move it back to the first weekend of October. November can have rough weather in the early part, with snowstorms, ice storms, etc. How many people in theirs 70s and 80s are going to go to the polls where they don’t have early mail-in voting?
Eliminate mail-in voting and the claims of fraud.
Most people work Monday through Friday, even in our 24/7 economy. Give the poll watchers a break. Polls should be open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. That gives people plenty of time to vote.
I was a poll inspector in New York, where I’m from. The hours were brutal: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., all for a lousy hundred bucks. We can do better.
Motor-voter is absurd. Two years ago I got an enhanced driver’s license, for airline flights. You need three IDs; I provided a birth certificate, a 1099 income tax form, and a property tax bill. Naturalization citizenship form, or rental resident would also be OK.
Let’s straighten this out.
