Port of Port Townsend lead mechanic Shawn Wiles and apprentice Justin Taylor work Monday to replace the tires on the Port’s 300-metric-ton marine travel lift.
The mechanics expected to have the job done come Wednesday. Each tire weighs a whopping 1,500 pounds and carries a $12,000 price tag.
The Port also kept it local while sourcing the lift’s new rubber, special ordering the massive Michelin tires through the Port Townsend Les Schwab.
