Deadline approaching for Little League registration

Special to The Leader

East Jefferson Little League is kicking off its 2024 season by opening registration to Jefferson County children, ages 4-16, for all skill levels for baseball, softball and T-ball.

According to Liz Anderson who handles the league’s PR and marketing, they’re hoping to see more than 150 young people at the Bob Bates Field in Port Hadlock on Saturday, March 23, for the EJLL 2024 Jamboree, which includes food and opening ceremonies.

Those interested can register for the season at ejlittleleague.com online. The last day to register is Wednesday, Feb. 14, as skill assessments for all softball, minor, intermediate, and major division players take place on Feb. 17 and 18. Times will be announced on the league’s website and Facebook page.

From there, district umpire training is held on Saturday, Feb. 24, in Port Orchard, with general practices starting on Monday, Feb. 26, and T-ball practices starting on Monday, March 11, before Picture Day takes place in late March or early April.

The East Jefferson Little League Board is also looking to recruit a new vice president and lower scheduling coordinator.

The EJLL Board VP shares responsibilities with the player agent and coach coordinator for conducting tryouts, player drafts, and all other player transaction and selection meetings. The VP is also expected to support the board president in overseeing functional board positions.

The lower scheduling coordinator is tasked with maintaining the local league schedule for T-ball thru prep baseball, with other leagues.

To apply for either board position, send a letter of interest to secretary@ejll.net via email.

“We are also looking for coaches to make this year possible,” said Anderson, who added that the league needs one coach each for the following three teams; ages 6-8 prep, ages 9-12 major, and ages 12-13 intermediate. Those who are interested should email coachcoordinator@ejll.net.

Anderson said the league likewise needs independent skill assessors, umpires, and help in the concessions area. All such volunteers must complete the free, mandatory Little League International BASE Abuse Awareness Training.

Since no child is turned away for lack of funds, East Jefferson Little League welcomes donations to its scholarship program, through checks payable to East Jefferson Little League, P.O. Box 403, Port Hadlock, WA 98339. For as little as $20, you can sponsor first base.

“Want your business logo seen during the games?” Anderson asked. “We also have space for more signs available in the outfield.” Current pricing begins at $500 for the first year, then goes to $200 for subsequent years.
