I believe that the governor and state and local health departments have done an excellent job in bringing the pandemic under control. The coronavirus is capable of doubling the number of infected people every three to four days.
Picture Jefferson County with 5,000 people sick and over 1000 people needing hospital care. Around 10% of the people needing hospital care would die. Hospitals would be swamped. Putting it another way, without social distancing and safety precautions, one person would result in 100 being infected in a month.
Hong Kong has had only four deaths and Taiwan has had only a few hundred cases because they had a pandemic plan and started two months before the U.S. President George Bush started a pandemic plan for the U.S. and Obama added to the plan. President Trump ended the pandemic plan and fired the people on it. As a result of President Trump’s inaction we now have over 1 million people infected and over 80,000 people dead from the virus.
President Trump thought the pandemic was fake news until he heard it on Fox News. Trump is against large-scale testing because it would show a large number of people infected and make him look bad. Tens of thousands of people have died and will continue to die because of Trump’s lack of leadership. It’s time for people to quit making excuses for Trump and do what’s best for the country. The U.S. needs a pandemic plan and to get Wall Street money out of politics.
